Bridal Bliss in Florence

An interview with Danielle, a bride from New York who was married in Florence with the help of Sogni Italiani

Chandi: Why did you choose Florence for your wedding? Had you been there before?

Danielle: There were some logistical reasons why we chose to have our wedding in Florence, however, if truth be known, it was my first choice. I knew I wanted to be married in Italy. I had been to Florence before and was captivated by the beauty and romance of the city. I had such a wonderful time when I was there years ago that I couldn't imagine a more perfect place for my wedding. I wanted to share it with my husband -to- be.

Chandi: Was it difficult to plan a wedding that was taking place so far away, and how were you able to feel confident about it?

Danielle: It felt like a daunting task at first. I tried the Italian consulate and travel agents and got nowhere. I searched the Internet and found a site that had recommendations for other companies that specialized in this overseas marriage consultation. Sogni Italiani had gotten such rave reviews that it was one of the first I contacted. Timing and budget was an issue and the only one who stepped up to the plate for me was Sogni Italiani. I did not know how this was going to work and had to have faith in others. Letting go of the control was a bit hard for me but Sogni Italiani's professionalism and expertise prevailed making it easier to be confident in the outcome. They made it easy by presenting me with choices and bending to my needs.

Chandi: Florence, of course, is a very beautiful and romantic city for a wedding, but would you say that there is something about the Italian character as well, that adds to the experience?

Danielle: There is a hospitality that I have experienced in Italy unlike that of other places I've visited. It is as if the people are welcoming you home. There is an old-world gentility that makes the experience different than weddings here in the states. Throughout our day, the local Italians shouted out congratulatory remarks and stopped us to complement us, almost as if we were family or friends.

Chandi: Was there a pleasant surprise, or something that was beyond your expectations, about your special day in Florence?

Danielle: The whole day was a surprise beyond my expectations. Not ever experiencing this type of wedding before and not knowing anyone who had, I did not know what to expect. The day flowed so perfectly. We had people coming from all different places around the world and somehow we met up with no problem. We walked along the Ponte Vecchio and bought my wedding band. That was an unbelievable surprise that added to my day. Then at the restaurant, they played "Here Comes the Bride" and bought dessert to as a gift to us. The church was very old-world and up in the Florentine Hills and the views were definitely beyond my expectations. I had never been in the hills and did not know what to expect.
