Located just 3 kilometers from San Gimignano and its famed Medieval towers,
Sosta del Duca is an ancient complex with an impressive history. Its story can
be traced to the 1300’s when it belonged to an aristocratic feudal family.
Subsequent owners included the noble Acciaiuoli family and the Royal House of
the Savoy family. The present owners are architects and have lovingly restored
the estate in just the past decade. Much attention has been paid to maintaining
the integrity and character of the original structure. At the same time, the
Bimbi family has done an outstanding job of tastefully furnishing the apartments
and equipping them with the most recent amenities. Modern conveniences include
air conditioning, wireless internet and shared laundry facilities (washer and
dryer). On site dinners are offered three times per week. They are prepared with
traditional Tuscan recipes using local produce and ingredients. The wines are
regional and of excellent quality. The outside dining area is a lovely covered
pergola with beautiful views over the countryside. The inside dining area is
called the “La Stanza del Duca” (The Duke’s Room) and is warm and welcoming with
its brick interior and characteristic arches.
The hillside setting amid the olive orchards and vineyards provides lovely the
views. San Gimignano is easy to reach, either by the main road, which takes
about 10 minutes by car or by the original back road, which also leads to the
town. Hardy walkers can take this lane and reach the town in about 45 minutes.
As you walk through the countryside, the views of the famous towers take you
back to another time.
The estate comprises the manor villa and several of its annexes. The main
building houses 14 guest accommodations and there is also an independent guest
cottage with garden (CAPANNA DI SOPRA). Sosta del Duca is open in
2015 from
April 18 until October 24. Wireless Internet access is possible near the
reception area and in the front courtyard.
Sport and nature enthusiasts may take excursions on foot, on horseback or on
mountain bike and wander through woods and vineyards, ruins of old churches,
castles and lovely old farm buildings. Golf Club (18 holes) is 12 km away ,
tennis-courts and horse-riding are 4 km away

GROUND FLOOR: Capanna di Sopra is an independent cottage located approximately 50 meters from the main villa. It is surrounded by a spacious private garden with beautiful view, furnished with table and chairs.
