I would stay in Casa Patti again if I ever visited Positano again. The house was beautiful, and very spacious. Two bedrooms with double beds were large. The bedroom with two twins was small but perfect for two teenagers. The terrace view was breathtaking, all 360 degrees of the view. A small grocery store was just uphill (80 steps up) that had everything from fresh produce to wine. We cooked several meals. A fresh fish market was down by the beach. The beach was a 15 minute, 300 step walk, or 30 minutes on foot by the road. An elderly person could not get to this house, nor someone with bad knees. But that assessment is for all of Positano, as steps are everywhere. Stefania was helpful in arranging a day trip to Capri on a private boat that held 12 passengers. It was delightful, much better than the ferry ride with 100 people. The house had wonderful, spacious bathrooms, very atypical of European bathrooms. The house was in a very quiet location. Occasional fireworks at the beach at midnight were the only real noise. I'm sure the fireworks were heard by everyone in town, though. The terrace was the best thing about the house. We had dinner most nights on the third floor terrace. It had spectacular views of the beach, sea, and all of Positano. It did not have any shade, however, for the daytime. If you liked sitting in the sun it is wonderful, but very hot midday. The only thing the house lacked was a shaded area in part of the terrace. I would love to live in that house in Positano, it was that nice! One other nice thing is the exceptional security, and privacy. A locked iron gate provided security to four residences. An intercom system allowed one to call the house, which could in turn open the gate remotely. The gate was keyed so it could be locked when leaving. We did not see too many houses or apartments with such security and privacy from the public. As far as accessibility to town center, you have the 300 steps to negotiate. It is about 3/4th on the way down the hill to town center and the beach. In other words, about 3/4th of the houses are above it. It is close enough to walk, but high up enough for spectacular views. Any closer to town and the noise might be an issue from the nightlife. There is no parking near the house, so a car does no good for the town. Public parking, mostly by reservation, is too far to do any good for reaching town center. It is as far to walk to the one parking garage as it is to the town center. The bus stop for the local SITA bus to get to other Amalfi Coast towns is a 20 minute walk. We did not have a car for the week-long vacation. We used the bus system and boats for nearby towns, and a private driver for transport to Naples airport. We had no issues with the rental process or your company. It was all rather painless, thankfully. You told me what documents to have and everything went smoothly. Thank you! S.B. June 2015

Hi Susan and Jim, Our trip was smooth and easy, thanks to the clear and accurate instructions you provided. Prior to our arrival, I contacted the key holder and arranged for the garage and porters. Using the porters is a genius idea. The stairs leading to the villa are steep, narrow and there are 94 steps. We probably could have managed but for the cost, it is well worth it. The people at the garage were warm and inviting and always took great care of us. Most days started with breakfast at home in the villa on the rooftop terrace which has a 360 degree view of the entire bay and city. That terrace sells the villa. The two rooms on the bottom level are large and roomy. One has a private balcony with an amazing view of the city and it is just above the iconic chapel which is beautifully adorned with blue and yellow ceramic tiles. The second room is at the front of the villa and I must say that it can be a bit noisy because it is at the common entries of the three villas. It would only be a problem if the neighbors arrive late in the night after a few too many drinks. There is a large living room on that level with a sleeper sofa. the small breakfast table is in the kitchen which is adequate for a short stay. It shares the balcony with the first bedroom and there is a gorgeous ceramic glazed barbecue outside. The third bedroom is small and has a single bed and a window. The beds in the two main bedrooms were very firm which I did not mind but some people might. The one in the third bedroom is just the opposite. The villa has a/c units in each room and the living room as well. We never used them because the doors have secure shutters that can be left open all night and no risk of break-in. there are screens on the doors as well to keep the bugs out. The terrace on the rooftop got a lot of use. We had long breakfasts and dinners there each night. In the am we rose before the sun came up over the mountains and at night we were delighted with the stars and beautiful lights of the city. The location of the villa could not have been better. The stairs lead right up to the main (and only) road that only travels in one direction. There are many great restaurants within minutes from the villa and a small but well stocked family owned market right by the entrance to the stairs to the villa. There are two pedestrian routes to the beach from the villa. One which travels down through the neighboring homes and is about a ten minute walk to the beach. The other is up to the main road and down through the main shopping area and many more restaurants. We loved the pace of life in Positano. Everyone is friendly and greats you as you approach. We went to the beach for a beach day only once. I am very fair skinned and sensitive to burns. However, I went in the sea and the water was amazing. The merchants are not pushy or aggressive. They give you space when you need it and go out of their way to help when asked. Since we were up early each morning, we were able to witness all the folks cleaning the walks and streets. There was never any litter, the landscaping was always well maintained and no one (including taxi drivers) was rude to pedestrians or fellow motorists. Having rented a car, most days we took trips to the neighboring towns. The drive along the coast up towards the town of Amalfi is breathtaking. I caution those without the skills to navigate the sometimes hair raising curves and narrow roads. If that is your case, by all means hire a driver. I did the driving and I must say it was sometimes tricky. However, never any incidents. The day before our sad departure I contacted the key holder to set a time to turn over the keys and return of our deposit. To our surprise the owner of the villa was the one that came (right on time). We sat with him and chatted about our trip and he asked if there was anything that he could do to make staying there better. I find that kind of attention remarkable. He returned our deposit and the porters arrived right on time. I have to tell you that this has to be one of the best vacations I have ever taken. I have traveled a lot and I have been all over the world. It is not the place for those who want to visit 16 countries in 12 days. If you want to go to a beautiful place, with beautiful people and amazing food; Positano (and Casa Patti) is the place to go. C.C. June 2015
