Casale Clitunno enjoys a lovely riverside setting on a large estate
between Trevi, Montefalco and Foligno. The Clitunno river dates back to
antiquity and bears the name of a Roman river god. It is said that the Romans
enjoyed the great beauty of the Clitunno, whose origins come from a spring near
Spoleto. Casale Clitunno is a typical Umbrian farmhouse dating back to the
17th century. It is reached by crossing the Clitunno River on a characteristic
stone bridge dating to 1775, which is inscribed in the stone. The surrounding
fields are graced with lavender, sunflowers, wheat and sagrantino vines. This
prestigious wine grown uniquely in this area is one of Italy's finest wines and is
most associated with the hilltown of Montefalco, which figures prominently on
the horizon. Also close by is Bevagna, an ancient town whose city walls are
still intact. Bevagna is known for its medieval festival, Festival of the Gaite,
that takes place every year at the end of June. The capital city of Perugia is
less than an hour away and offers a wealth of history and art, medieval
architecture, and restaurants and shops.
Casale Clitunno offers six guest
accommodations and has a restaurant with pleasant patio for breakfast and dinners. The house has been restored with the utmost of care. It is a model of
bio-architecture, striving to reach a complete harmony with nature. The
apartments feature an elegant “minimalist simplicity” which brings them alive.
Details such as encanto watercolors on the walls, wax-treated terracotta
floors and solid wood furniture enhance the integrity of the structure. Linens
are of top quality and the bathrooms and kitchens all have the best of modern
amenities. There is a communal laundry room with washing machine and ironing facilities.
The warm hospitality of Luigi and Carla is an integral part of
the Casale Clitunno experience. They are able to offer breakfast and dinner,
upon request. Great pride is taken in using home made products such as jams,
cheese and olive oil. Herbs and organic vegetables are grown on the premises.
Menus are based on food that is locally grown and produced, paired with wines of
the region.
The salt water swimming pool is located in a panoramic
location. There is a convenient changing room with shower and numerous lounge
chairs and umbrellas for relaxing. Bike rentals are possible.
The six guest
apartments vary in size. The smallest is a studio apartment and the largest is a
three room suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. All of the apartments have
air conditioning, safe, WIFI internet, direct phone line, flat screen satellite television, hairdryer,
and cooking area. Four of the apartments have fireplaces. There is an apartment
on the ground floor that is handicapped accessible.
