Surrounded by manicured farms with
sheep and goats and crops, one never tires of the remarkable views of the
rolling Umbrian countryside. There are so many places to enjoy them! The
swimming pool is beautifully landscaped with gardens and olive groves. The
shaded terrace is furnished for lounging and relaxing and the large open
courtyard offers a terrific space for outdoor dining with both the grill
and wood-burning pizza oven conveniently positioned.
La Fornaia is
centrally located with easy access to Rome, Florence and Perugia airports and within an easy drive to most anywhere in Umbria.
It is truly a perfect
place to recuperate from the daily grind, to gather with friends or as a home
base for day trips around Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria.
The property
comprises a 17th Century farmhouse and stable, both of which have been recently
renovated with excellent taste and care. The two can be rented together to
accommodate up to 12 guests. When only the farmhouse is rented, the stable
(annex) remains closed. The annex is wheelchair accessible and has its own
private garden as well as sharing the courtyard with the main villa. It too has
been carefully restored to reveal the original character of the stables.
La Fornaia’s traditional stone walls, cotto tiled flooring, wood beam
ceilings and special antique pieces create an impressive contrast with the
modern touches throughout. Attention to detail sets this villa apart; quality
linens, well-equipped gourmet kitchen, hi-speed wireless internet, satellite TV
and full laundry facilities. Top quality linens, towels and bathrobes are also
provided.
The American owner is welcoming and helpful. She is able to
arrange pre-stocking, a local cook, cooking lessons and other services such as
drivers, tours and bike rentals. The closest food shop and restaurant are at
5 minutes in the medieval hamlet of Sismano, known for its castle with 11th
century origins.
