Villa Castellare is a classic ancient Tuscan villa located in a small
hamlet near Tavernelle Val di Pesa, in the heart of Chianti. It is a careful
and meticulous renovation of a noble family home in a beautiful area graced with
olive groves, thriving vineyards and tall cypresses.
The owners have
done an excellent job of preserving the ancient atmosphere of an historic
dwelling, while also including modern conveniences such as wireless Internet,
air conditioning, satellite TV and window screens.
Located between
Florence and Siena, this is an ideal place to discover the marvels of Tuscany.
Day trips from here can include the nearby historic hill towns as well as the
wineries, monasteries and art centers of this beautiful region.
The
grounds and terraces of the villa are extensive and offer a pleasant setting for
outdoor dining, relaxing in the gardens and enjoying a swim.
The
private pool
(15m x 7m, with depth 1.2m - 1.4m) is equipped with comfortable sun-beds.
On the lawn right next to the pool is a splendid gazebo covered in vines, with
chairs and a table. There is a large garden with lawns, rose gardens and olive
trees. At the further end of the garden there is a grove of trees with a large
marble-topped table, lighting and a small kitchen where you can prepare meals
and relax in the shade on the hammocks. There is large variety of roses,
including old-fashioned English types, which guests are welcome to pick and take
into the villa in order to enjoy their scents and colors.
The villa is
surrounded by 10 hectares (about 25 acres) of vineyards, olive trees and woods.
Its red wine – Chianti DOCG – is produced using selected hand-picked Sangiovese
grapes. The extra virgin olive oil has won many prizes for quality. If you
happen to be here in the grape-picking season between September and October you
can help with the harvesting and fermenting of the grapes and taste the new wine. October/November, instead, is the olive-picking season and guests can
watch the olives being pressed and taste the new oil! Guests are invited to
choose from vintage wines and olive oil in the wine cellar under the villa. The
owner is expert in wine and olive oil, and can give you advice and guide you in
tastings at the villa and at other well-known wineries in the area.
The
kind and accommodating owners, Enzo and Annagloria live in the stone house
adjacent to the villa, and are available for assistance and recommendations.
Just this past year, Enzo and Annagloria created a very special venue in the grove behind the villa. It is a unique and charming amphitheatre for the musical and theatrical enjoyment for guests of Villa Castellare.
A welcome dinner is included in the price, which allows you to arrive and relax
without worrying about meal preparation!
