Over seven hundred years of history live within the walls of this beautiful Palazzo, which offers richly frescoed rooms and magnificent panoramas of the medieval city and beyond.

The northern Italian city of  Mantova is an enchanting historic city surrounded on three sides by lakes.  Piazza del'Erbe, Mantova's central piazza, is one of the most stunning  in all of Italy - it's a lively square where both locals and visitors congregate. There are many cafes and several great restaurants in and around the piazza.  In 2005 Mantova was named Italy's most livable city.

Also known as Mantua, you might remember that Romeo came here after he was banished from Verona after killing Tybalt.

Besides its artistic and historical treasures, Mantova excels for its food tradition and the for availability of enriching activities--from the boat excursions on the lakes surrounding the town to the spring jazz festival to the literature festival that runs each September.

Read more about Mantova here in the London Telegraph.

The Palazzo is still owned by the descendants of Baldassare Castiglione, a 15th century Italian courtier, diplomat and author.  Learn more about this important historical figure.

This is a region rich in both culture and nature, conveniently located close to Bologna, Venice and Milan. There are many possibilities for excursions, including visits to Verona, Sabbioneta and Lake Garda which are just a 40 minute drive away, or Cremona, the town of the violin makers, which is an hour’s drive away.

Personalized excursions and guided tours can be organized on request.

Mantova is a great place to cycle.  It's fun and easy to discover the territory by cycling.  The famous Peschiera-Mantova Cycle Route connects the town to lake Garda and runs along the banks of the River Mincio.

Embraced by its three lakes, Mantova amazes the visitor for its natural environment.  It's an ideal setting for swans, herons, cranes, geese, and the lakes offer an unforgettable show during the summer with lotus flowers blooming.

Daily housekeeping is included in the price.
