Casa Gioia's noble origins can be distinguished by the carved stone archways and
niches and the handsome masonry of the walls surrounding the villa. This
stone villa-farmhouse has been thoughtfully renovated, preserving its antique
charm. Casa Gioia boasts a lovely rose garden,
cypresses, cedar, olive and fruit orchards
as well as manicured lawns in the garden of the upper terrace where the
pool is located.
Guests will enjoy magnificent views of Cortona's fortress
and Palazzone to the West and a southern view of the hills and valley where the
battle of Trasimeno took place between Hannibal and the Romans some 2,000 years
ago. The attractive interior reflects the owner's personal and tasteful
style, which incorporates both Italian and English antiques into the décor to
create a charming and cheerful atmosphere.
The house recently appeared in the Italian home decoration magazine, Brava
Casa. Casa Gioia,
enclosed within hand-hewn
stone walls, is set back 150 meters from a local road offering easy
access to
Umbria and the Val di Chiana. The lower garden’s marble table and wrought-iron
chairs invite outdoor dining. Lavender, broom, rosemary, jasmine and viburnum abound in the upper garden near
the
pool. Have a glass of "Bianco Vergine", the local Cortonese white
wine, under the wisteria pergola, while watching the sunset.
Once a 16th century Ghibelline tower with four floors, Casa Gioia now has three
floors (200 square meters). The ground
floor level has an entrance hall, bathroom with shower and laundry. dining
room, and living room featuring a stone fireplace and French doors opening onto
lower the garden. Library with English books, CD player, DVD player and
satellite TV: for our guests' enjoyment. A spacious kitchen is complete with dishwasher,
microwave,
Italian and continental coffee makers as well as a cozy breakfast
area. An extra large refrigerator, new cutlery and appliances have been
added.
The middle
floor has a master bedroom with
queen bed. There is a small but elegant and intimate double bedroom.
The bathroom on this floor is located between the bedrooms. It is large
with bathtub, shower and all new stainless steel fixtures.
The upper
floor has another master bedroom with a king bed. There is also a
double bedroom with either queen bed or two single beds (as required). The
newly designed bathroom with shower on this floor is also located between the
bedrooms.
