Rossa Varenna is a beautifully perched and comfortable house with a
private garden and lovely views of Lake Como. The front of the
house looks toward the garden and the lake, while the back part of the
house is at the end of a local road, which stops five meters after the
house. Below Rossa Varenna, with separate entrance is
Piccola
Varenna, a small accommodation for four people with its own terrace
and no access to the garden.

A new swimming pool was completed in 2007. The pool is private to Rossa
Varenna and can be used by the guests of Piccola Varenna only when both
accommodations are rented together.
At the garden level, the hall is accessed by a large patio shaded by an
old wisteria. The living room, with large windows opening to the
garden has a fireplace, two comfortable sofas and satellite TV.
The studio with a library opens directly to the living room. On
the same floor Rossa Varenna offers a lake view dining room with a
table for eight people and a separate kitchen with refrigerator and
stove (four burners) and washing machine. On this level there is also a
half bathroom.
There is wireless Internet access available, for a fee of 40 euros per week. A cell phone is available, which must be requested in
advance.
A nice loggia welcomes the guests on the first floor and gives access
to the terrace-solarium with view of the lake. On this floor
there are also three bedrooms: two double bedrooms and one twin-bedded
bedroom. The twin bedroom provides access to one of the double
bedrooms. On this same floor there are two bathrooms, one with
shower and the other with tub and separate shower and washing machine.
Upstairs there is another
twin-bedded room with lake view. Each of these beds has an
additional pull out bed which are available for an extra fee of 150 Euros each
per week.
Rossa Varenna has been recently
restored and tastefully furnished with great care. The private outdoor
area is shaded by old cypress and olive trees, while the patio is
equipped with a table and chairs. All of the bedrooms are located
upstairs, and there are about 20 steps between the parking level and
the villa. Therefore, we do not recommend this villa for guests with
walking difficulties.
A baby bed is available.
Rossa Varenna can be connected
to Piccola
Varenna through one of the double bedrooms and the two rentals
together can accommodate up to 14 people. The Alta
Varenna property can also be rented all together, combining Rossa
Varenna,
Piccola
Varenna,
Giovanni Varenna and Vista
Varenna. In this combination up to 29 people can be
accommodated in a large scenic estate with two pools.
Varenna is a beautiful lakeshore town on lake Como. Built on a rocky
promontory it was a sentinel for centuries at the heart of the lake.
Varenna today is a quietly refined town with charming old houses and
romantic panoramas. The climate is particularly mild, as witnessed by
the presence of olive and cypress trees, as well as other botanical
specimens normally found in much warmer climates. Along the lakefront
is a romantic walkway, abounding in flush vegetation, linking the town
center and Olivedo, the landing point for ferries and steamers. Varenna
is the ideal starting point for a visit to the north and central
regions of Italy and the southern Swiss Alps. It is less than two hours
from Milano Malpensa airport and one hour from the Milano Linate
airport. Places to visit: The Castle of Vezio (only a five minute walk
from the villa). The gardens of Villa Monastera, a neo-classical garden
offering a long walk along the lakeshore. Bellagio and Menaggio are 15
minutes away by ferry. Como with its ancient monuments, excellent shops
and churches are near the villa, as are Tremezzo and the famous Villa
Carlotta.
Two hours of maid
service each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are included. Pool
towels are included. In 2010 the pool will be open from May 29 to
September 25. Linens are changed on Saturday. Telephone use
is metered. Tennis courts can be reserved for 15 Euros per hour
in the daytime and 20 Euros per hour in the evening. Services
available only upon request and charged separately include cook
services, cooking lesson, advance grocery shopping, baby sitting, extra
maid services and restaurant reservations. Extra bath towels are
available for 6 Euros per set and extra bed linens are available for 10
Euros per set.
Final cleaning is 80 Euros, except when rented as part of Alta Varenna,
in which case there is a final cleaning charge of 400 Euros.
