Casa d'Amore lies in a beautiful and private setting on the Lake Maggiore shore halfway between Stresa, Italy and Locarno, Switzerland.  It offers a tastefully decorated, spacious and bright interior, as well as a romantic atmosphere in its luxuriant garden.

There is a private beach with mooring for guests' use and easy access via a footpath to the sweet town of Cannero - a typical fishing port offering a variety of cafes, shops and a promenade. There is regular ferry service from Cannero to Stresa where you can connect to other points around the Lake.  There is also direct ferry service from Cannero to the Borromean and Brissago islands.

This beautiful coast between Verbania and Cannero, famous for its subtropical vegetation, faces south and is protected from cold winds by the mountains. Casa d'Amore's beautiful and spacious garden (4000 square meters) provides a haven for lemon, orange and olive trees, gardenias, azaleas, mimosa, magnolias and palms which all flourish in this gentle climate.  Jasmine and wisteria climb the façade wrapping around the blue shutters and there are even thick bamboo plants flanking the property.

The rich tropical ambiance adds to the peaceful and private nature of this 100-year-old villa. The villa originally was the home of Gaetano Donizetti, the romantic composer of great operas such as Elisir d'Amore and Lucia di Lammermour that are still being performed today throughout Italy.

Casa d'Amore has been very recently restored with great care and taste. Its historic features, such as wood and terra cotta floors, have all been retained and the furnishings reflect the romance and style of the past century. Beds are wrought iron and there is a collection of beautiful lake paintings that grace the newly painted walls.

All rooms on the ground floor have direct access to the garden, and each bedroom has large windows to the south with a view to the garden and the lake. The garden offers many different niches for relaxing and there are furnished areas with tables and chairs for enjoying the spectacular view of the lake and for al fresco dining.

Maid service is included for three hours on Monday and four hours on Wednesday, with a change of bed linens every Saturday. Bath linen is changed on Wednesday and Saturday. An extra bed is not available. A telephone is available for local calls only, and dial up Internet access is available. From the parking lot there is a paved path of about 25 meters to reach the gate of the villa. From the gate begins the paved path that leads down to the villa. This path measures no more than 150 meters and it is paved. The last part of the path ends with a ramp of 35 steps. Therefore, this villa is not suitable to people with walking difficulties.

Description

300 square meters

The villa has three floors and all rooms overlook the lake with screened windows. Each has furniture, ornaments and paintings that nicely complement the era in which the house was built. The bedrooms are provided with fans.

Ground floor

Entrance to the house from the garden path into a dining room with views of the garden and lake. The colorful kitchen next to the dining room is a well-equipped family kitchen with four burner stove, freezer, a refrigerator, a dishwasher and bright country-style ceramic dishes. There is a view of the garden from the kitchen and a small barbeque is located just outside the kitchen door.

The living room with fireplace and TV (local) also has a garden view, and there is a sitting room with a round coffee table. There is one bathroom on this floor with a shower.

First floor

On the first floor (up 21 steps) there are four bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has twin beds and one has a queen bed. Each of these two also has a sink in the room. On this same floor there is an additional twin bedded room, and these beds can joined into a queen bed. Finally, there is a queen size bedroom. This floor also has two bathrooms, one with a stand-up shower and one with a bathtub and hand-held shower.

Attic floor

On the top floor there is a laundry room with a washing machine and drying rack.

The caretaker of Casa d'Amore is very friendly and can arrange for meals on site, provided by a neighboring restaurant.
