Located in the heart of the Chianti region between Florence and Siena (each are about 35 km away), Villa Castiglioni is a beautiful and spacious farmhouse that enjoys a particularly panoramic and quiet position.  Vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees grace the extraordinary landscape modeled by centuries of farmers' patient toil and the Castiglioni estate is comprised of 69 hectacres with medieval origins. Remarkable views encompass the Castle of Santa Maria Novella and stretch as far as the towers of San Gimignano across the rolling countryside.

NEW!  A free cooking class is included in the rental price.  Learn how to make home-made pasta and enjoy a delicious meal at the end of the lesson.

Villa Castiglioni is set on a hill amidst an extensive olive grove and produces first-class extra virgin olive oil which is available for purchase.   A cook's service is also available upon request.  Guests can sample first hand the locally produced olive oil and fresh produce used in the preparation of a typical Tuscan meal.

This villa includes our special “arrive and relax” package:

A simple Tuscan dinner is provided on your arrival night.  This is a welcome sight after a long flight and will allow you to check in, unpack and relax.  You will find the dinner in the kitchen with the instructions for heating.  The dinner is also suitable for vegetarian guests.  It basically consists of a pasta al forno, a vegetable tarte, salad, and fruit.  Bread, water and wine are included.  No changes are possible for the first dinner.

The villa also will be stocked with basic groceries so that you do not have to shop upon arrival or worry about store closures on Sunday.  The shopping list consists of: milk, coffee, tea, bread, biscuits, sugar, salt, water, fruit, eggs, oil, butter, jam, orange juice, cereals. The quantity of the items will be adjusted by the staff according to the number of guests.

The central structure of Villa Castiglioni is a stone medieval tower dating back to the 11th century and once served as a defense tower for the nearby castle S. Maria Novella.  Side wings were later added converting the house into a working vineyard estate.

The current owner is a descendant of Baldesar Castiglione, politician and scholar of the 16th century, and has restored the house with the care and taste given to a private residence.  Much thought and attention went in to maintaining the integrity and character of the original building.  Typical regional features include the terracotta floors, the ceiling beams, the large fireplace with small window and the decorative pizza oven in the kitchen.

Colorful flowerbeds welcome guests at the entrance to the house and the well-maintained and colorful garden stretches south where it opens up onto an open inviting countryside.  The garden not only provides wonderful views, but is also furnished with excellent teak furniture overlooking the expansive valley.  An attractive pergola laden with jasmine and other graceful vines is located near the kitchen and offers a perfect shady place for relaxing and enjoying al fresco dining.  A short gravel path through the lavender bushes leads to the swimming pool where there are sun loungers positioned for the spectacular view. The pool measures 5 meters by 11 meters.  In the distance is the small village of Fiano which is about 1.5 km away and can be reached by a footpath.  There is an outdoor shower/WC under a loggia near the house which comes in very handy when using the pool.

Adjacent to the house is another small farmhouse where the Italian-speaking mother of the owner lives.  She is available to help you with any problems that may arise.  The outdoor facilities of the house -- garden, pergola and pool -- are completely private for the guests of Villa Castiglioni.

Villa Castiglioni comfortably accommodates nine people and is 320 square meters in size.  The house develops over three floors with five air conditioned bedrooms (air conditioning is provided only in the bedrooms of the main villa), each with a large clothes closet; four interior bathrooms and one exterior bathroom under the loggia; a large living room with fireplace, two small halls and a large eat-in kitchen with a wood burning oven and direct access to the garden.  There are also two loggias and one pergola, lawn furniture and a barbecue.

The house is very well equipped with satellite TV, stereo, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, large refrigerator with icemaker, mosquito screens, telephone (local calls), fast internet connection.

Price includes two hours of maid service a day (Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays) and a gardener 5 days per week.  Arrival dinner, basic grocery shop, WIFI internet (200 MB per day) and pool towels are also included.  Bed linens are changed on Saturday and bath linens are changed on Wednesday and Saturday. Extra maid service can be provided on an hourly basis.   Extra fee-based services available upon request include cook service, transfer service, extra maid service and laundry.

For 2013, the pool will be open from May 4 to September 21.
